Biography
Jinseok Kim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Western Michigan University. His research centers on understanding how advanced materials and small-scale structures respond to mechanical and multiphysics environments. He has worked extensively on size-dependent mechanics of micro- and nano-structures, including functionally graded, porous, piezoelectric, and magneto-electro- elastic systems, using analytical, finite element, and meshless approaches. More recently, his research has expanded toward nonlocal computational methods, particularly peridynamics, to model discontinuities, fracture, and coupled electromechanical behavior. His work has addressed problems ranging from bending, vibration, and stability of micro/nano structures to crack propagation in brittle piezoelectric materials. Through these efforts, he aims to develop computational tools that connect material behavior, structural response, and failure mechanisms across multiple length scales.
